Husky Week for Beginners – Exclusive
Activity Provider: Winterdog
Private Tours – No Other Guests!
Immerse yourself in life on a husky farm with around 20 happy sled dogs and experience a week filled with unforgettable moments in nature. Discover the wild beauty of this region far from mass tourism – in a private, warm and authentic atmosphere.
Throughout the week, you’ll be actively involved in everything from caring for the dogs and driving your own team to an unforgettable sled ride beneath the Arctic night sky. In between your adventures, enjoy relaxing days at the cosy holiday house “Villa Winterdog”, complete with a fully equipped kitchen and private sauna.
There will be no other guests joining your tours. This means we can be completely flexible and tailor the experience to your wishes and needs, adjust the intensity of the tours, take plenty of photo stops and spend as much time cuddling the dogs as you like. You’ll probably know all the dogs by name after just a short time and have already found your personal favourites.
The Husky Week is especially suited to anyone who feels that a one-day husky tour is simply not enough, has a genuine interest in the dogs, and appreciates comfortable accommodation and personal contact with the hosts.

Itinerary
-
Arrival independently. We are happy to arrange a rental car or a transfer from Luleå Airport or Boden train station.
Just outside the idyllic village of Överstbyn, the cosy “Villa Winterdog” awaits you – your home for the next few days.
During a welcome dinner in the cosy kåta, we’ll get to know each other and go through the programme for the days ahead.
-
Today you’ll get to know the Winterdogs and receive a detailed introduction to the techniques of dog sledding. Afterwards, the first tour through the white winter landscape begins, with two people sharing each sled. One person stands on the runners while the other sits in the sled. You can switch positions during the tour.
After the tour, enjoy a traditional Swedish fika with sweet pastries and coffee or tea.
Duration: approx. 2.5 hours
-
You’re already familiar with the art of mushing, so today you can fully enjoy the peaceful journey through the snowy winter landscape.
Along the way, we’ll take a break and enjoy a hearty lunch around the campfire, surrounded by a wonderfully wintry atmosphere.
Duration: approx. 3.5 hours
-
We’ll drive along quiet country roads, with the chance to spot moose, reindeer, red foxes, hares and Arctic birds along the way. After approximately one hour, we’ll reach our destination – “in the middle of nowhere.”
Equipped with snowshoes and accompanied by a cheerful husky at your side, we’ll explore the Arctic landscape around the Arctic Circle and cross it through the iconic portal, which makes for a fantastic photo opportunity.
We’ll celebrate the moment with a hearty lunch around the campfire.
Duration: approx. 4–5 hours
-
A full day of husky adventure! The tour covers 30–40 km through snow-covered forests and across frozen bogs, lakes and rivers.
Along the way, we’ll warm up with a hearty lunch around the campfire. There will be plenty of time for breaks during the tour – perfect for taking photos, breathing in the crisp Arctic air, and simply enjoying the silence and beauty of the winter landscape.
Duration: approx. 5–6 hours
-
A husky tour in the dark is a truly special experience! It feels almost magical when the snow sparkles in the moonlight, and thanks to the low levels of light pollution, you can see an incredible number of stars on a clear night. With a little luck, the Northern Lights may even dance across the sky above you.
Would you like to take the reins and drive your own sled once again, or would you rather snuggle up together on the guide’s sled and simply enjoy the magical atmosphere? The choice is yours.
Duration: approx. 1.5 hours

Relax at the holiday house, explore the area on your own, or join another guided tour?

Even the most wonderful week must come to an end, but the memories will stay in your heart.

This provider implements additional measures and goes beyond both our minimum requirements and the applicable national regulations.
To make this commitment visible and encourage these additional efforts, we use a simple recognition system on our platform. Partners who go beyond our requirements in at least three areas are identified by this symbol. You can find more information about it here.
This provider places a strong emphasis on the health and wellbeing of their dogs. All dogs are covered by health insurance and have access to a small pool to cool off during the summer. Particular care is also taken when training young dogs: young dogs are first gradually introduced to working with the guide team and are carefully accustomed to their future tasks step by step.
The way senior dogs are cared for is particularly noteworthy. Heated kennels are available for them, or they can have a place inside the house, ensuring that older dogs are accommodated according to their individual needs. In addition, the guide is trained in canine first aid and is therefore prepared to respond to medical emergencies.
