The changing seasons are particularly fascinating in the far north. The colors become more intense, the days shorter, and the temperatures cooler. Autumn in the north is short but intense, enchanting us with an abundance of vibrant colors, peaceful moments in nature, and the magic of the Northern Lights.
For our 20 Huskies, this time of year means that training season finally begins again! As the sun starts setting again after the bright summer nights and the evenings become cooler, you can feel the energy returning to the dog team. There is nothing they would rather do than run.
During this week, you will actively take part in life with the dogs – from helping to care for them and going on hikes to an exciting training run. At the same time, you can enjoy relaxing days at your own pace in your cozy holiday cottage, complete with a fully equipped kitchen and private sauna.
Other activities may include a Western horseback ride, a Swedish cinnamon bun baking class, a revitalizing Ayurvedic massage, or a visit to a truly cool traditional blacksmith’s workshop. And the cozy holiday cottage, with its large windows overlooking the forest and its own sauna, is the perfect place to unwind.

During your stay, there will be no other guests. This means we can be very flexible and tailor the experience to your wishes and needs. If you like, you are welcome to help with caring for the dogs and learn what life with these animals looks like throughout the changing seasons. They will be more than happy to receive some cuddles, and before long, you are sure to have found your own personal favorites.
Itinerary

Travel to the destination independently. We are happy to arrange a rental car or a transfer from Luleå Airport or from the train station in Boden (see optional services).
In the small village of Överstbyn, the cozy “Villa Winterdog” awaits you. The house has two bedrooms and its own private sauna. Thanks to the extra-large windows in the open-plan living and dining area, you can look straight into the surrounding forest and enjoy a great view of the sky – where, with a little luck, the Northern Lights may dance in the evening.
As a welcome dinner, you will enjoy a two-course meal by the fire in our wonderfully cozy Kåta, a traditional Swedish barbecue hut.

In the morning, you will get to know the dogs – a lively group of around 20 Siberian and Alaskan Huskies. Over the coming days, you are warmly welcome to join in with their daily routines, including feeding, cleaning, playtime, and plenty of cuddles.
Afterwards, there is time to explore the surrounding area. Just 3 km away lies the idyllic village of Gunnarsbyn, with a small but well-stocked shop where you can find everything you need for your daily essentials.
In the evening, we head out in search of the Northern Lights. We are happy to show you our favorite photography spots and share our tips for Northern Lights photography. This way, you will be well prepared to head out on your own Northern Lights hunts during the following evenings and capture some amazing images to take home with you.
Autumn is one of the best times of year for photographing the Northern Lights, as the lakes and rivers are still unfrozen, creating beautiful reflections of the lights in the water.

Today, a hike with some four-legged companions is on the agenda. Connected to a Husky by a waist belt, you can truly feel the strength and energy of your four-legged friend. Hiking is a wonderful way to stay active while also switching off, taking in the sounds and scents of the forest, and reconnecting with nature.
During the hike, we will take a break and enjoy a hearty lunch around the campfire.

Autumn means training season for our Huskies. Join us on a training run with the training cart and an energetic team of 8–10 sled dogs. It is wonderful to watch the dogs doing what they love most while taking in the beautiful autumn scenery.
After the run, the dogs receive a well-deserved reward snack and, of course, plenty of cuddles.

There are plenty of exciting places to visit within easy reach, such as the Arctic Circle Portal, the impressive “Storforsen” rapids, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of “Gammelstad”. A day trip to Jokkmokk, including a visit to the excellent “Ájtte” museum, is also well worth it.
We are happy to recommend beautiful hiking routes or arrange additional activities for you. In the evening, you can relax in the comfort of your holiday cottage, enjoy the sauna, and unwind in the peace and quiet, far away from the stresses of everyday life.

This provider places a strong emphasis on the health and wellbeing of their dogs. All dogs are covered by health insurance and have access to a small pool to cool off during the summer. Particular care is also taken when training young dogs: young dogs are first gradually introduced to working with the guide team and are carefully accustomed to their future tasks step by step.
The way senior dogs are cared for is particularly noteworthy. Heated kennels are available for them, or they can have a place inside the house, ensuring that older dogs are accommodated according to their individual needs. In addition, the guide is trained in canine first aid and is therefore prepared to respond to medical emergencies.

Villa Winterdog
Newly built in 2023 in traditional Swedish wooden style, this holiday house combines modern comfort with a rustic and cosy atmosphere. It features two bedrooms, a bathroom with shower and sauna, a separate toilet, and a spacious living area with a fully equipped kitchen.
Extra-large windows offer beautiful views of the surrounding nature.
