The Self-Drive Experience is designed for adults who want to actively drive a dog sled themselves. After an introduction to driving techniques and equipment, participants take turns driving the sled with the guide. The trail leads through forests and open fields around Dragnäs and lasts approximately 1.5 hours. The dogs are rescue dogs and are cared for by Jenny and Basti. After the ride, the dogs are cared for together; there is time for questions and photos.
Basti, Jenny, and Ylvie live in Dragnäs with their 28 wonderful dogs, 2 adorable ponies, and a few happy chickens. They have been active in dog sledding since 2017 and have developed their team of rescue and second-hand dogs because they believe in second chances and want to make a difference for the dogs that find their new homes with them. Their dogs are beloved family members, regardless of their abilities.

This tour requires a good level of physical fitness and a secure sense of balance, as the sled is steered while standing and participants must actively assist the team. The minimum age is 16. Windproof and waterproof winter clothing and sturdy footwear are required. Overalls and thermal boots can be rented from us.
We have a dedicated blog post about the physical requirements for dogsledding. How fit do you need to be? From sit-down tours to multi-day expeditions with camping in tents, different trips require different levels of fitness. Read more about it here. -

This provider places particular emphasis on preventing heat stress in the dogs and regularly offers the sled dogs the opportunity to swim during the summer. Furthermore, the owners hold qualifications as certified sports scientists, animal naturopaths, and physiotherapists. Their commitment to animal welfare and their additional care for dogs who have had a difficult start in life are also particularly noteworthy.
